This podcast episode is not meant to celebrate symbols. My conclusion after writing this episode is that... there are no rules to assigning symbolism. Symbols have their place in Gospel study, but sometimes symbols distract us from what they are supposed to symbolize. For example, being a "light unto the world" is a nice symbol – but it doesn’t teach us anything more than there is a similarity between light and being a good Christian. Symbols such as the American flag, sacrament, baptism, and crosses are discussed.
